The Foundation I Didn't See Coming

I don’t really know how else to start this except to say that my work didn’t begin with photography. It started with faith.

This was never something I intentionally set out to do. The concept of Tato Photography began around 2023, but the work that led me to officially establish it in 2025 started long before that. If I’m being honest, I wasn’t trying to build a business at the time. I just wanted to get closer to God. And in 2019, that path unexpectedly began to shape everything else.

It was a quiet kind of change that I didn’t fully understand then—but things shifted in ways I couldn’t ignore. Long-standing romantic relationships fell apart, my goals completely shifted, and my career paths changed drastically. The direction I thought my life was taking suddenly became uncertain and yet I had never felt more confident or more sure about a redirection in my life.

In retrospect, I can see how necessary it all was—and maybe still is (I’m not fully out of the woods yet lol) It wasn’t just change happening — I was beginning to trust differently. This was the kind of spiritual trust that carries you into things you don’t feel fully ready for, but somehow know you’re meant to grow into anyway. When I self-evaluate the way I work, I can see how much of it is shaped by that. I intentionally slow down for moments that can’t be repeated and notice people in their most unguarded states. These days, I hold myself accountable for creating fun & safe spaces for my couples — because to me it’s not just about the pretty pictures, it’s about helping people be fully present in their “now.” The beauty is in that. Moral of the story, It stopped being only about angles & technique a long time ago. Tato Photography came from something deeper that I can’t really separate from my faith. And in a way, this feels like the right place to begin—because everything I’ve built, and everything I’m still learning to build, has been held steady by that foundation.
